WHAT DO YOU LEARN IN YOUR MUSIC LESSONS? Prospective students are often asked this question. We are sensitive to the fact that every student is an individual. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal musical needs and goals. We do not treat every student the same in terms of what and how we teach. A seven year old having their first guitar lesson will have very different needs than a fifty seven year old taking up piano for the 2nd time after having lessons as a child. We will work with you to make a plan that will fit your needs and musical preferences. At the first lesson your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child.
WHAT STYLES OF MUSIC DO YOU TEACH? We teach all styles from rock, pop, hip hop, R&B, jazz, country, metal, and blues.
ARE YOUR INSTRUCTORS QUALIFIED? Our teachers have received their education from prestigious institutions. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours in the US and Europe and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level.
GUITAR LESSONS/BASS GUITAR LESSONS/NEW UKULELE!!!
(for ages 8 and up)
Our guitar teachers teach pop, rock, blues, metal, heavy metal, country, flamenco, spanish, punk & shredding and classical guitar lessons on electric and acoustic guitars. Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. We use tablature, chord charts and standard notation. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that in each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but always end with something fun such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of guitar method books to accomplish this and encourage students to bring CDs or their iPod to their lesson to learn their favorite tunes.
(for ages 5 and up)
Our piano instructors teach a variety of styles, from classical to popular music. Whether you want to learn Beethoven, The Fray, or Alicia Keys, our teachers are happy to help you become the pianist you want to be. Our piano faculty will show you the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, but they will also incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons. You do not have to have a piano at home to take lessons. A simple full size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first 6 months.
(for ages 7 and up)
Our drum instructors teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge any drummer with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort. All drummers bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their lessons and theory is encouraged. We have many drum students who play in local bands, be it in rock clubs or their local churches. You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take lessons. Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drum sticks and a notebook.
(for ages 5 and up)
If you have always wanted to be a better rock, pop, country, jazz, gospel or R&B singer, then we have the right voice teachers for you. Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to work on sounding like their favorite recording artists, or if they prefer, to develop their own unique voice. We not only teach singers, but also local TV and radio personalities who want to enhance their speaking voices.
STRING LESSONS (VIOLIN)
(for ages 6 and up)
Our violin lessons are for both acoustic and electric violin. All techniques are offered such as how to properly hold the instrument, arco and pizzicato styles, sight reading, intonation, double stops, vibrato, harmonics and musicianship. We welcome students who want to study classical style, bluegrass, rock, and pop.
WOODWIND LESSONS (FLUTE / CLARINET / SAXOPHONE/TRUMPET)
(for ages 6 and up)
Private lessons for any woodwind/brass instrument start at 8-10 years of age due to the size of the instruments. The level of skill and musical ability required for these instruments is the same, but the embouchure (mouth position) for the instruments is very different, so most people find one much easier to get a sound out of than the other. If you are not sure which instrument to choose, come along and have a go to see which suits you better.
MORE ABOUT OUR LESSONS
- 1/2 hour, 45 minute and 1 hour lesson slots once a week are the most common, however we are flexible in order to accommodate you.
- Parents and/or guests are welcome to sit in on the lessons or in the waiting room.
- Group lessons, ensemble, and band coaching are also available upon request.
- We can help students prepare for NYSSMA, Piano Guild, concerts/recitals/performances and competitions.
- Lessons are focused on what the student wants to learn. There is no one method that works for each student. Each student has different ways of learning, we recognize this and apply it to our teaching policy. The lessons should be a fun and positive experience as the student progresses on his/or her instrument.
